Hi there! I'm Sam (he/they).

I discovered the gym as an adult with naïve enthusiasm, moving from machine to machine with no clue what to do. I remember how intimidating the free weights section was and how overwhelming the mountain of online exercise advice was.

Now, the gym has become a place for me to explore movement, build strength for the activities of life, improve my mental health, challenge myself, and work towards a variety of strength, muscle building, sports, and movement goals. I believe it can become the same for you too!

My goal is to help you discover the strength and movement ability that supports what you want to do. As a personal trainer, I'll work with you to figure out how exercise fits in your life and supports your goals.

Qualifications

I combine my fitness qualifications with a decade working in education, equity and inclusion to hear, empower, and support you.

I'm always learning and adding to my skillset. In addition to my Certificate III and IV in Fitness, I've completed training in:

  • FMA Strength Level 1 - bridging the gap between training and rehab, including understanding individual biomechanics and structure, addressing common postural and movement restrictions, and working with and around pain.

  • Whole of Body Massage (Discover Massage) - sometimes a bit of hands-on work can speed up your mobility and strength progress.

  • Mechanics of Lifting - a deep dive into key lifts and variations, and the role individual anatomy plays in how we lift.

  • Kettlebell Essentials Level 1 - using kettlebells in training safely and effectively.

  • Bachelor of Engineering majoring in mechanical and material engineering - this was my first degree and career, and has surprising overlap with understanding the body and lifting as mechanical systems!

  • First Aid, CPR, and Mental Health First Aid training

  • LGBTQIA+ Allyship training

  • Cultural Awareness training
